'And Then They Came for Us' Screening in San Diego

The Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego hosted a screening of “And Then They Came For Us” on August 29, 2019, at the University of San Diego Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, KIPJ Theatre. An estimated crowd of 180, including 22 judges, attended the event.

After the screening, there was a special panel discussion featuring Dale Minami (counsel for Fred Korematsu in the Korematsu case), Bita Ashtari (President of the Iranian-American Bar Association) with moderator Judge Selena Epley of the San Diego Superior Court.

This documentary - winner of the ABA 2018 Silver Gavel Award - recounts the mass evacuation and internment of Japanese Americans in the western United States. “It was a failure of American democracy, and yet because most Americans are not aware of that dark chapter of American history, it’s about to be repeated.” - George Takei, Actor and Activist.
